I haven’t blogged on RSL’s recent win against KC in large part because I’ve been too busy or too inebriated (post-game) to write about it. RSL’s 3rd win was cause for much merriment, and the black liquidation with the froth on the top flowed freely from the taps of The Republican Bar on State street. The mood hovered somewhere between joy and shock for most of the evening. Clearly we’ve had far too few opportunities to celebrate this season. Well done RSL…something was clearly cosmically aligned for this game
The other reason I haven’t written anything about this has to do with not having a good point of reference for analysis. Clearly when you go up 1-0 that early in the game, it softens things up for you considerably. Clearly our possession was better, with far fewer randomly errant passes (Brown and Talley excepted obviously). More importantly, what Morales added was some purpose and timing going forward. Eddie is clearly enjoying playing with Mantilla, feeling comfortable to step a bit forward to make timely challenges at times. I do look forward to this tandem for the rest of the year…who knows, maybe Eddie will be so happy finally not having to hedge his play in so many directions that he’ll postpone his retirement a year.
Clearly we had some trouble in the second half, though the response from the team wasn’t to further bunker, but to make an effort to exploit the number of people KC was sending forward. It was a good win, a win deserved by the play on the field, and I was happy to have a pint in celebration for a change.
Up next is LA…what is up with LA? On paper, this team is competitive, they certainly have shown the ability to score a bunch of goals, though their defense has been porous. But more importantly, have you seen their injuries list???
MF David Beckham
OUT – L ankle
D Chris Albright
OUT – R hamstring
M Kelly Gray
OUT – R calf
D Ty Harden
OUT – R hip
D Ante Jazic
OUT – R ankle
D Abel Xavier
QUESTIONABLE – L knee
MF Landon Donovan

M Cobi Jones
QUESTIONABLE – R hip
D Kyle Veris
PROBABLE – R hip
DF Troy Roberts
PROBABLE – R ankle
F Edson Buddle
PROBABLE – L Achilles
MF Peter Vagenas
OUT – R quadriceps
I mean, do they even have enough players to field a squad??? That’s 13 on the injured list, though clearly some of the “questionable” injuries will play. Holy crap!?? Well, if there was ever an opportunity for a road win, this is it. I’d be predicting it if I hadn’t seen how disjucted we can be on occasion. Hopefully the short week won’t be a hard on us as it was on LA. I saw Javi and Fabian both limping at the end of the KC game. Here’s hoping Klein doesn’t have another miraculous bike to crush our hopes (that was a truly outstanding goal against Pachuca). It’s another away game, so I’ll see you all at the pub.
