The Straight Dope on supporters seating for Oct. 9th

The first thing I have to say, is I can’t stand referring to the new stadium as the “Sandy Stadium”…Because I haven’t heard anybody refer to it as such yet, (and I’m a bit surprised), and because I have Tom Waits playing in the background while I write this, I’m going to refer to the previously unnamed stadium as “The Palace”

I have all of life’s treasures
And they are fine and they are good
They remind me that houses
Are just made of wood
What makes a house grand
Ain’t the roof or the doors
If there’s love in a house
It’s a palace for sure
Without love…
It ain’t nothin but a house
A house where nobody lives
Without love it ain’t nothin
But a house, a house where
Nobody lives.

I will also accept El Palacio, but it doesn’t go as well with the song.  So many of you may not be aware that there is no current word on how much of the “Supporters Stand” (I’m apparently in the mood to bequeath names to locations today…is this what Adam felt like?) will be completed for the Oct. 9th game, when Real will host its innaugural game in the Palace against NY Red Bull.  The front two rows of the Stand are actually permanent concrete like the rest of the stadium, but the majority of the Stand will be removable for concerts.  This is the portion of the stadium which is least likely to be complete for the Oct. 9th game.  As such, at present, though you can buy single tickets to this game in the rest of the stadium, single supporters seats are not currently available.  RSL has made clear that they will have season ticket holders seats in the Stand available in the first two rows, but are reluctant to sell seats to the rest of the Stand until they know whether it will be available as seating for the event.  When they will make this determination is anybody’s guess.  If you were hoping to stand with the RCB for this game, the only way to ensure that you can for Oct. 9th is to purchase (put a deposit on) your 2009 seats, at which point, they will make sure there is space for you in the “Stand” for Oct. 9th. To do this, become a member of the RCB and follow this ticket link
, choosing your season seat in either section 8 or 9.

They are more optimistic about the completion of the Supporters Stand for the Oct. 18th Palace appearance against Dallas.  For that game, there will be a ticketing link through the RCB website…www.cavaliersbrigade.com…to purchase single game tickets.  I will also publish that link here when it becomes available.

I hope that clears up in some small way the confusion over how to purchase supporters seats for the rest of the year.

  1. Actually about half of the seats in the Supporters Section are already installed. The rest will be installed next week. There are some steps that need to be poured, and all of the handrails, etc that need to be put in place, but it’s expected to be done.
