Soccer America it seems is not without some interesting news. While reading through the latest email alerts, I ran across an interesting tidbit.
Nov. 24-26 was the USYSA ODP interregional tournament (Olympic Development Program) in Florida for the 92’s, 93’s, and 94’s. The regional teams are made up of players chosen from each of the 4 regions. Being chosen for a regional team is quite an honor in itself, but James Rogers of Salt Lake’s Sparta Premier was chosen for the Adidas All-Star ‘93 all-american squad. Rogers led the Region IV(west) team to an undefeated record in the etournament scoring 3 goals. He scored a brace against the Region II squad and another against Region III.
In a region traditionally doninated by California and Texas, it was nice to see somebody from Utah make good. Rogers was also recently selected as one of the 32 players named to the U-15 National team roster for the Development Academy Nike Friendlies in Bradenton, Fla. Congratulations to James Rogers and good luck.
